Negroes Rally for Africa Colonization Plan in Oklahoma
The State Register reports arrangements for a October 23 convention to form a state body promoting colonization of African Americans in Africa under the Aurabam Lincoln African American Colonial Society led by Capt N B Baston of Stillwater and other Oklahoma white citizens. A statewide meeting in Sapulpa October 28 will gauge how many can join the colonists. A Gana Arkansas colony of several hundred, and a 100-person Southern Oklahoma colony, are organized, with offers to pay transportation costs. Letters from Kentucky Georgia and Missouri show more colonies forming. An ex Oklahoma man who lived in Alberta Africa assists, recalling a London 117 year old colonial effort.
