The Beaver County Chapter chairman reports from a Southwestern Division Red Cross conference in Wichita and Eldorado Kansas. He praises volunteers including Geo W Simmons and Alfred Fairbanks, rejects rumors against the Red Cross, and urges all residents to support humanitarian aid for soldiers and war victims while promoting accurate information and continued preparation.
Letter from Beaver drafted soldiers recounts arrival in Woodward and Frederick, crowds of thousands at Mangum and Altus, Red Cross supper in Altus, trains shuttling soldiers via Fort Worth and Austin, then Camp Travis near San Antonio. Describes verve, salutes, band marches, and initial barracks routine.
The group describes being ordered from barracks after roll call then baths and bed tick filling at hay sheds. Soldiers drill near them, about four thousand in sight, with plans to send Beaver boys to the hospital later that day.
Herald editor and local clergy visited LaKemp to gather details on forming a Red Cross unit. Residents expressed eagerness to combat malaria, support community health, and build up local welfare through organized drives and public action.
W A Probst of Beaver weds Fannio Gatterwhite in Tulsa on October 6 1956 at the bride’s sister home. The couple will reside in Beaver with friends invited to celebrate later. Probst manages Probst Grain Co. of Beaver. Mrs Probst is daughter of Mrs A Pecktenpeugh.
A large turnout from Gate attended a Red Cross gathering at Gate Hazurday night to discuss the presens organine and branch of Beaver County Chapter American Red Cross. Enthusiasm ran high as the community pledged support for the ongoing organization.
