The Fifth Annual Northwestern Oklahoma Educational Association meeting set for Northwestern State Normal in Alva includes a full program from November 2 to 29 with concerts lectures and departmental meetings. The Geo Hamilton lecture is free to enrolled teachers and a free lunch is offered Friday noon by the Domestic Science Department. Mrs. Fann J. Fann presides with Miss Gixe Wotzry as secretary. D M Kilefe plans a large garage beside his blacksmith and machine shop with a full equipment list. A Methodist church service is set for November 4 with Grant preaching on The Transfiguration. A Monday street clash between Stedman and Jones over a civil debt ended with a jury verdict for Jones.
President Wilson announced an extra session of Congress to convene not later than April 1912 to revise the tariff. Democrats favor the move as a key platform plank, while Republicans oppose it, fearing business disruption though acknowledging Democratic control. Union Thanksgiving services at the Christian church Thursday at 10 o clock a.m. with sermon by Rev Leeper.
Mrs B and family moved into a newly completed home while E W Neff recovered from a heart attack. Misa Nelle Dann arrived from an unspecified location and will visit relatives. Dr Laird to hold free lectures at K P Hall and in the White House Hotel while also offering free consultations for chronic diseases.
State inspector A. C. Parnent and EF F Proffett praised Beaver High School for achieving full accreditation. They noted the school will have its work accepted by the State University and called the achievement a mark of being among the state’s best. Superintendent Swaim credited improved study emphasis and honest critique for progress. attendance and future performance were discussed.
Mrs L L Shaw of the Royal Lone and Daughters and the Cheatian Bible Behool entertained her class and several friends at her home last week. A free will offering helped pay the church pledge. Rev H B Beil of the state Anti Saloon League spoke on temperance at the Christian church with strong audience support. Nearby, Miss Kuna Tweedie hosted a primary grade gathering at Mr and Mrs A S Dickson’s home with games, refreshments, and hours of enjoyment.
A horse named Old Bill shied the carriage returning from Forgan. Billy Quinn and PL. Thomas suffered serious bumps and back injuries while Shaw and Tooker escaped unharmed. The rig was damaged but repairs were possible. The incident left the farmer and families shaken as the horse stood unscathed.
The Marthas hosted a Tuesday evening at Mr and Mrs Kugel to present a lively and humorous entertainments with playful costumes and witticisms. Guests arrived in festive garb, including a green pendant and Paris style gowns, while Min Een Graltres won a prize for the most ridiculous cor wie. The program featured impromptu songs and stunts, followed by baked goods and refreshments, and the whole affair was praised as surpassed only by few socials in recent memory.
