Beaver prepares for a two day celebration with airship flights from Protector Kansas by Prof Cessna, daily fights, ball games, races, a merry go round, music and more. The committee promises clean events for a record crowd and urges town to support progressive closing hours for stores during July August.
The Christian church announces Sunday morning and evening services plus a 1 a m Bible School with full participation. Morning service at 1 a m, evening at 7 15 p m features a sermon on Modern Excuses titled Am afraid I can't hold out by the pastor. Also notes Avery effort to comfort the congregation and Miss Mire Alta Boyle resuming music duties after a trip to Ashland Kansas with the Ray Barney family delayed by the rein.
Beaver businessmen praise local merchants for serving customers during a rail outage that left Liberal Kansas as the nearest rail point. Cargoes stalled three to four weeks, supplies dwindling, while merchants kept pace, earning gratitude despite hardship and unfair criticism from some quarters.
A severe wind storm struck Saturday evening, with accompanying rain and hail in parts of Beaver County. The new post office building suffered major damage including blown-out front windows and a demolished second story wall. Brick and glass losses were reported at Davie Drug Company and First National Bank, with skylight and porch damage at Peinberg's store and Art Quinn's residence. Estimated total losses range from 1500 to 2000 dollars, with Beaver total potentially between 900 and 1200 dollars.
The ceremony united Roscoe Risley and Miss Ruby Seal in marriage last Sunday evening with a small circle of friends present at the Christian church. Rev L L Ben officiated as music by South Milew and Humphrey accompanied the rite. Risley, son of Mr Ry M Risley of Clear Creek, is a prominent lawyer with Looftburrow Risley, and Miss Seal is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Z T Seal of Clear Creek. The couple will reside in Beaver County as plans for their new home are announced. A street bowery event near Billy Quinn's building announced Top Thomas barber shop and the Narrow Gauge Union opening soon.
A Beaver crowd traveled by road to Ochiltree Texas for a return voyage on Saturday. Those starting late afternoon faced rain and mud that slowed the trip. Beavers Gray assisted many travelers while others sought farmhouses for shelter. No one drowned or blown away and the rear guard reached home Monday.
A full harness and running program is prepared for the upcoming State Pair racing weekend. The event opens Monday September 25 with daily races of both kinds and a free-for-all pace on Friday the closing day. Barbers are late closers this year, boosting entry lists. Kotelen runs September 11 when the hotel must be the same. The 1910 Premium List covers details, available from Secretary State Fair, Oklahoma City Dolph Kuykendall in Beaver on Tuesday for business.
Motorists faced several deep mud holes north of the bridge on Monday and Tuesday. Cars repeatedly stuck as rains and heavy hauling worsened the road. A Herald reporter and locals observed several recoveries with mule traction.
The Milk and Cream exhibits introduce a new feature in the Dairy department at the State Fair to be held September 28. Entries include four quarters of milk per bottle, modern cream entries, and quart or half-pint bottles. Each entry must note the draw date and delivery to the express office. Entries require pasteurization and no preservatives, with judging on odor, texture, color, fat content, and packaging.
