Surprise Birthday Dinner for Grandpa and Grandma Searcy

Neighbors gathered at Uncle Jack Searcy's home on Thursday around 11 o clock to secretly celebrate the joint birthdays of Mr. Bearcy and Mrs. Searcy. Guests included William Searcy and family C T Gardner B F Tedder H N Livergood and family Mrs H E Perkins and others. A feast of Beaver County specialties filled three tables, with more than enough food and warm wishes for many more birthdays.

Music Club Meets at Mrs Holland Home

The Ladies' Music Club met at Mrs. Jeff Holland's home Tuesday night. Miss Jennie Keith led a lesson study on American music and composers. Mrs. W. G. Stranathan and Miss Lois Quinn gave instrumental rotes. Vesta Carter sang a Carrie Jacobs Bond solo God Remembers when the World Forgets. Beulah Hall presented musical calendars. E. J. Horne was elected to membership. Refreshments included jello with whipped cream cocos and fruit cake.

Confiscated 1916 Ford Touring Car in Oklahoma Case

The cane of the State of Oklahoma versus a 1916 Model Ford Touring Car, engine No 264001, was tried in county court Tuesday. Owned by R H Taylor, the vehicle was used October 8 1921 by Taylor and Joe Ebing to transport intoxicating liquors. The car was confiscated. Mr Ballinger of Cedarville Missouri was in Beaver Tuesday shaking hands with old friends. formerly Beaver employee of H D Meese in the harness shop, visiting his daughter Mrs Frank Davis in Liberal Kansas.

A dinner was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stalling on December 23 to honor their forty-ninth wedding anniversary. Attending were Walter Stalling and family Howren Hall and family and Lewis Nichols and family from near Booker Texas.

A Christian Endeavor Society social at the home of O. P. Smith Thursday night drew about thirty young people. Misses Carrie Smith and Mary B. Hanly assisted president Mrs. W. T. Quinn in entertaining.

Death of John T. Mertschin at County Farm

John T. Mertschin died of bronchitis on December 24 1921 and was laid to rest December 25 1921. He lived at the county farm as a ward for years and his relatives were unknown. Mr and Mrs Carl Muir of Liberal Kansas visited J W Cayler’s family for Christmas. Mr and Mrs William Moore dined with their parents as did Harry Cayler who traveled from Booker Texas for the family meal.

Al Blake formerly of Liberal Kansas now in Los Angeles California and Mr Naylor of Liberal Kansas visited Beaver on Wednesday. Blake is president of the Citizens State Bank Liberal. Gladys and Edna Barley returned to Goodwell school last Sunday. W C Girk from near Forgan was in Beaver Tuesday on school business.

Community Christmas Tree Brings Beaver Together

Beaver residents gathered at the courthouse for a community Christmas tree with a live nativity and carols. Fifty schoolchildren performed the Old Christmas Story under teachers Miss Helen Murphy and Mrs. Ruth Drum. Santa visited, distributing candy and popcorn balls, while Mayor L. L. Long and Rev. W. B. Leonard urged continued community action and a future community center.

Truax Family Travels After Elkhart Marriage News

Walker drove to Elkhart Kansas Tuesday of last week while H D Truax and Mrs Truax headed back to Oklahoma City from Springfield Colorado where they attended the marriage of their niece Miss Gra Truax who wed D J Griffith of Kansas City on December 21. Griffith and Miss Truax will reside in Kansas City Missouri. Miss Truax was a Beaver high school student regarded as bright and capable and well known to a wide circle. Truax remained in Beaver a time then returned home via Lamar Springfield.

Miss Margaret Brewer Dies at 20 in Beaver Area

The community mourns Margaret Brewer 20 years 10 months 7 days old who died December 20 1921 at her father H A Brewer home southwest of Beaver from brain congestion likely after a smallpox bout. A Beaver High School former pupil taught at District 49 she rested January 1 at Overton cemetery with Rev Carter officiating. The Herald offers sympathy to her father and relatives.

Beaver Nets First Day of Electric Power Service

With the New Year Beaver marks a long fond hope as 20 hour electric service is installed January 1. Power may off briefly during line tuning but will run from 6 AM to midnight daily once ready. Citizens thank city officials for a reliable light and water system praised as second to none in the Northwest.

An enthusiastic meeting of the Hea ver Post elected officers for the ensuing year.
