A comic scene from The Idol Dancers shows two boys at the Globe as a missionary persuades a native boy to wear pants amid a beach landing. The film is D. W. Griffiths latest First National production showing Friday and Saturday February 24th and 25th.
The Methodist Missionary Society held an opening meeting with Indies from other societies in attendance. Devotionals by Rev Butler, program by members, reports from other societies, and a short talk by Rev Pearson of Forgan were presented. The Forgan society attended as a body and refreshments followed. Verba Gertrude age four months, daughter of Mr and Mrs Luther Tree, died February 16, 1922 and was buried at Pleasant View cemetery. Sympathy extended to the grieving parents.
A two year old girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lynn Russell, was playing near an upstairs window when the screen gave way and she leaned out. She suffered a wrenched knee and a shaking up, with a doctor called. She stayed in bed Monday but should recover soon.
Deputy collector Hil Young of Internal Revenue will be at Beaver on February 28 1922 to help taxpayers prepare their income tax returns. The service is free and any resident needing assistance may call for aid on that date.
Poultry breeders and fanciers especially those seeking single comb white leghorns are told that a high laying strain is developing. H C Hinéar Old La Kemp notes the best leghorn stock is being added to improve local flocks. A cockerel from George B Ferris White Leghorn Farms Grand Rapids Michigan was ordered. The bird stems from pedigreed stock with egg records from 265 to 330 per year. Mr Hall has mated this male to eighteen top hens and expects quality stock.
Beaver High School will host a county meet on Saturday April 15 featuring track and field, oratorical and reading contests, spelling and ciphering, drawing and penmanship displays, and possibly debating if entries allow. Classes A B C determined by school size, medals awarded, judges provided, and a big basket dinner at the pavilion.
The Herald reports a "Trip Around the World" enjoyed by about 175 excursionists in eight Ford sedan coaches. The journey visited homes and countries from the United States to Italy Ireland France Africa and more with first class tickets dining and Pullman service described as deluxe.
The county received 0.66 inches of rain Tuesday night breaking a long dry spell. Wind thunder and lightning preceded the shower, soaking parched ground and lifting grass and wheat. A. Barnett of Forgan was in Ben gal Wednesday to arrange taxes. He will be our ice man next summer and plans to move to Beaver around April for delivering ice by truck from Forgan.
The Southwest Oil Development Co offers 850000 for a 200 barrel well within ten minutes of Liberal. Officers Lo V. Gardner Leena D. Weidensaul Ray Kennedy and J N Maxwell back the wager with 50000 to be paid ten days after a 200 barrel well is completed to spur nearby test wells and attract other firms.
A group of Eastern Star Lodge members visited Mrs. D. Meese in Vre HD Meese Tuesday evening, brightening her spirits during a period of ill health. The informal party featured a playful slang term entee that contributed to the cheerful atmosphere.
Raymond Kimball of Beaver donated twenty two volumes to the Mothers' Club Library, including Bay Scout and Camp Fire tales and other good books. He is commended for kindness and urged to set an example for other children.
The fourth Lyceum of the season drew a large crowd on Saturday night and the Columine Convert Company received high praise for its program. Beaver residents attended the Duke Jersey Hog Sale by Lile Kuhns & Lone, with average 85 dollars per hog and total receipts of 2206 dollars. County Agent W B Hanly visited Knowles and Gate, and O E S members remembered Geo Murphy at UC. 8 veteran’s capital at Prescott plans a postcard shower to boost George’s hours.
Washington reports a proposed League of Nations cost of 1 000 000 francs annually to cover the rent and board of the exiled Emperor and family on Madeira Island. The league faces a bankrupt treasury as many members refuse dues, complicating Portugal's funding. Gene Couch in Beaver sells wheat. H M Hullek travels for business.
