The nation marks February 22 as George Washington birthday with nationwide celebrations. The piece praises Washington as First in war and peace, noting his leadership in the American Revolution and founding of the Republic, and lauds his personal integrity and private life as sources of national admiration.
General Fredrick Funston commander of the southern division of the U S Army died suddenly of heart disease in San Antonio Texas on February 19 after finishing dinner. Though not in peak health he seemed fine moments before his death which was nearly instantaneous. At 51 his loss is a national blow with strong military impact and mourning notes for the nation. The Immortal Funston and his famous Twentieth Kansas will live in American memory.
Long & Lawson Ford dealers have purchased ore south of K of P hall and plan a new 110 foot Ford Garage with hollow tie and tall glass front. Construction hinges on safe concrete weather, creating a premier sales room. The project showcases Beaver progress and faith in the town’s growth.
Sherif Couch warns that the Commissioner of Highways reports licenses will be issued promptly and delinquent pach tax will face prosecution after April 1. Motor vehicle owners must display the 1917 state tag to avoid enforcement actions. Pay your motor tax now.
Miss Lenore Long entertained a group of girls at a Tuesday night slumber party. The attendees included Lula and Johanie Sima Lucile and Gayle Hodge Luis Quinn Mildred Sicholaoa and others, with little sleeping reported.
The BH Glee Club directed by Mrs Homer Hill and Miss Erma Crabtree presented a lively program at the Glove on Inetwoek night. Dutel Girls and Dairy Maids plus other acts drew strong applause. four girls in red white and blue led the finale. Receipts were 45 and plans include further shows in Balko Guymon and Alva. The reviewer praises training by Prof Hill and endorses the club as bright, talented and worth seeing.
Phelps has rented the old sax on garage and renamed it Overland garage. He will handle new Overlands and second hand cars, offer accessories and repairs, and announce the change in The Herald. The Herald welcomes him to Beavers business landscape and invites customers to seek service.
Mies Gindya Kight, a teacher at the rade school, underwent surgery for appendicitis Sunday. She remained serious briefly but is reported recovering quickly. The Lyceum Course concludes Monday night the 28th at Thelobe with lecturer Frangie J. Gable, highly recommended and expected to cap the winter series.
Stranathan's store was burglarized around the noon hour Sunday. Both cash registers and the safe were opened and about $100 stolen. Mr Stranathan believes he has a strong clue to the culprit and may be able to act on it. The text notes the era and hints at the money amount.
Dr Levi who has led Beaver Hospital since its establishment plans to depart and study further then likely move to a city. The community will miss him as the hospital has benefited county residents with his skilled surgery. A successor is hoped to continue the work at the hospital.
