Beaver county items report residents returning from Cameron Missouri and Methodist Conference. Baptisms at the pool west of town. Wartime crops outlook and investor activity noted. Rail, farm and business updates include woodward Renfrew branch, Laughlin’s cold, Strong fire escape, local sickness, and county tax assessor concerns.
Groundwork has begun on water and electric light systems. Mains will extend citywide with pipes laid and arc lights placed, Douglas Avenue to be a “Great White Way.” Blueprints not yet available, but progress signals public improvements are moving. Residents expect lower insurance costs and greater convenience once completed. The railroad proposition and road progress are also discussed with cautious optimism.
A Sunday morning fire destroyed the home of 84 Strong and contents after a gasoline stove incident led a fourteen year old Chalmer Strong to light a stove. Family possessions and private papers were lost, with insurance covering part of the loss and moral support offered by the community.
We express heartfelt thanks to kind friends who showed big hearted spirit and ministered with care after the home fire on February 7 and May 3. Your generosity and support meant a great deal during our time of loss.
Mrs A G Thorne entertained many friends at her home Monday afternoon in honor of Mrs J D Niles. The gathering featured social conversation and music with the Ladies Orchestra performing chamber music and other vocal and instrumental numbers enhancing the pleasant event.
Mrs A Brown of Bix Mily sustained severe bruises and shock after a buggy runaway Saturday. While trying to pick up a dropped line, mules jolted the vehicle and she was thrown. Daughter in law Mrs Glyde Brown stopped the team and she was taken to Beaver for care. No bones broken, she is improving at her daughter May Roobine's home.
Mile Mary Sims daughter of Mr and Mrs John Sims of Kiowa and Ales Young a cattleman of the neighborhood were wed at the sister’s home Rev Lob Shaw officiating. The bride is a former Bowser High student and a talented young girl. The groom, just past Beaver County Texas, recently acquired a ranch and the couple will reside there with strong community best wishes.
The writer notes heavy winter weather in Missouri with two weeks of below freezing temperatures and eight inches of snow in Beaver County. People enjoy sledding and fireside evenings eating apples, expressing health and good spirits. F By Cone from Eagleville, Missouri signs the piece.
