The Sheppard Kenyon Bill is urged as a means to stop shipments of liquor into dry states. Proponents argue states legally prohibit the liquor traffic deserve protection and that a national restriction would aid enforcement and curb bootlegging.
Congress opens Monday at noon with many office seekers and lobbyists in town. Few measures ready for final action will be taken before March 4th, as the new administration prepares to assume power and a possible extra session may convene around April 15th.
Two year old sorrel filly stolen or estrayed from the Baker ranch near Wat Taos Wat Gaw area. Last seen September 1. Reward offered by H. H. Nonraway at Rid t Floris, Oklahoma for information leading to recovery.
The Kansas board of canvassers certified George H. Hodges as governor, a Democrat, after the state supreme court refused Arthur Capper's rehearing in the Wabaunsee County ballot case. The court also lifted the restraining order against the canvassing board.
The Winnipeg, Salvin & Gulf Railroad assets were auctioned by receiver J A Kimball and bought for 800 by Leone Miller, the promoter arrested on a blue sky case in Kansas. Nesmith acted as Miller's agent. Most assets were office furniture. maps and property records were missing. Miller faces a 5000 bond awaiting trial on alleged misuse of the matter.
Frank Chilcott found a large mammoth bone while digging sand at Dave Miller's farm just east of town. Observers say such a bone implies a prehistoric animal that roamed these lands before the flood. The bone is on display at the Braver Mercantile lumber yard.
Beaver residents share health updates and holiday plans. Local visitors include A. P. Cornell of Oklahoma City visiting business in Verensta, J. W. Savage offering quick farm loans, and Mrs. Davis of Clinton returning home after Thanksgiving. Reverend C. H. Leeper delivered the Thanksgiving sermon at the union services held at the Christian church. The eleven o'clock sermon was well chosen and delivered. the service inspired attendees. Rainey of Enid visited briefly on business and is an old friend of the Drummonds, having known them years ago in Enid. He also knows Pete Drummond, editor of the Enid Eagle, an influential figure in eastern Oklahoma.
Mrs L T Long entertained in honor of her sister in law Mrs A T Bee ile of Alva Friday afternoon of last week. A large number of invited guests enjoyed the hospitality and delicious refreshments. A Des Moines man sought relief from muscular rheumatism with Chamberlains Liniment after an expensive trip to Hot Springs. Three days after first use he was well. L Moon received a painful injury moving furniture to Beaver when a wagon hit a chuck hole and Hazel Moon was thrown about. Moon is hindered and will need time to recover. Kent furnished room advertised at the office.
The Bible Class of the Christian Church was entertained at the home of Mr and Mrs F C Tracy on a spring Friday. Games and music provided the evening's entertainment, refreshments were served, and all enjoyed a pleasant time.
