Beaver area brief with farm loans, millinery purchases, and social notes. Crowded items include Will G Fields promoting insurance and farm loans, visitors from Balko and Green Ridge, a Holiness street meeting, and multiple births and weddings. Also reported are travel to Colorado Springs and Nebraska, a lost coat, a serenade by the Beaver band, and upcoming wedding plans.
Beaver County Fair Association executive committee met at President L L Longs office and decided the fair will run September 17 18 19 20 aiming for four profitable days. Prizes will be offered in all departments and county exhibitors urged to prepare. Strong exhibits from Beaver county could showcase local thrift and boost the Oklahoma State Fair entry in Oklahoma City September 24 to October 5. Citizens urged to participate with enthusiasm and effort.
The Beaver Band gave a splendid street concert to a large town audience. A makeshift band stand was created with a large lay frame, proving useful though cramped. Editor Maude Thoman suggests a proper band stand would ease weekly concerts and notes local reactions to a separate political debate split over weeds and suffrage remarks.
Obituary notes the death of William J. Jones at Colorado City following illness after years in Nebraska and Kansas, with burial in eastern Kansas. A separate report details August Nelson’s arrest for attempted murder of Mrs. Sarah M. Thompson in Twin Mounds, alleging poisoning, choking, and a near-fatal overdose, with bond set and a preliminary hearing scheduled. Local regard for both victims and witnesses is highlighted amid community sympathy.
Miss Florence Strong daughter of Mr and Mrs Strong and Clarence Kennedy of Knowles engaged in carpentering in Beaver were married at the bride’s parents home Saturday evening. Rev A. B. Shaw pastor of the Christian church officiated. The couple are well known and widely liked in the city and warm wishes pour in for their future prosperity and happiness.
The official returns from the primary list Democratic nominees for county offices led by Sheriff J M Jones and Commissioner T Ly Motain with Lena Wright ahead of BR W Little for County Superintendent in a tight race. The Republican and other party lines appear to have elected several county officials including Braidwood Healy Spobo Vicker Wright Drum Gardner Phelps Ayer Billick Follows Hogan Haskell Duerson and N Com Ad. The official count will determine the final nomination outcome.
Closes out stock after weeks of selling off goods and shuts his grocery shop. Mr Milow retires reluctantly to devote full time to the Beaver river ranch near Cline, known as one of the county’s best. The Miles family’s return to the ranch will please friends while Beaver neighbors regret their departure.
The home of A. S. Page in Kokomo was destroyed by fire this morning. The origin is unknown. Mr Page was away at work and Mrs Page had driven to Beaver for trading. Neighbors spotted the blaze soon after she left, but flames had strong headway and nothing could be saved.
Sunday morning and evening services scheduled at Christian Chart with Bible School at 9 am. Lesson topics include Troubled Sea and Troubled Soul. Afternoon service at 1 pm features Parable of the Fig Tree. Christine Endeavor at 7 10 pm with sermon Turned out to Climb. Baptist and Methodist notices extend cordial invitations to attend services and an all day grove meeting at Capital View on Sunday August 18. Central office staff cover Beaver Telephone during Marie Jicknou’s vacation.
Beaver County land yields an enormous potato crop with ix wagonloads sold in Liberal Kansas trade area. Farmers De Bilbro and We Howard of North Flats report large drops of fine spades and many others yet to be heard from. Chamberlains Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy sold by dealers.
