Report from Beaver County predicts a splendid fruit crop if frost stays away. Apricots on O F Pruett’s tree show heavy bloom while peaches near full bloom. local optimism centers on a favorable season barring frost. A note from N N Redimer in Mexico dated March 10, 19) mentions newspaper delivery delays.
Herehel McCall of Kokomo bought the Carl Baeasler farm of Beaver, a 20 acre tract, for 10000 dollars. Auctioneer Mason reports splendid results at the A M Burnam sale held last Thursday the 27th. Two two year old heifers brought 102.60 and 109.00 with other stock selling well. Lawrence Davis of Sophia is in Beaver for treatment for a leg injury noted in the Herald.
Dr and Mrs L L Long entertained the Five Hundred Club and guests at their home on Wednesday night last week. After cards, a luncheon was served including pressed chicken sandwiches olives burnt sugar cake mint and coffee. Lieut Claude T Smith marked his March 26 birthday with a candle lit cake.
Cayler Bros. meat market is undergoing substantial improvements this week with both interior and exterior painting in white and the installation of new fixtures including a splendid refrigerator. The modernization aims to create a thoroughly up-to-date market and a highly attractive town shop.
Harry Peckham has leased his Clear Creek ranch to his brother H. D. Peckham and, with wife and son, will leave for Hot Springs Arkansas for Mrs Peckham's health, long troubled after a recent influenza attack.
A letter from promoter 0 P Byers of Anthony & Northern Railway pledges swift action from Liberal Kansas toward Beaver county line to Forgan with plans for construction starting in April. The note praises local Herald coverage and aims to earn community confidence while promising a real operating railroad.
Beavor visitor from Liberal Kansas Mr Light of Light Grain Co was in town Friday with Attorney F B Macy of Liberal on business. Light touted Light's Best Flour milled at Liberal elevator and offered a large ad in The Herald. He claimed the flour has captured 60 percent of the trade in the area.
Cy Cracy returned Thursday night from Oklahoma City where he attended a conference of Victory Liberty Loan chairmen. He has not received Beaver County’s quota nor Oklahoma’s total yet, but he reports an enthusiastic meeting and believes Oklahoma will go over the top. The Beaver County quota is still awaited, yet local supporters pledge to meet the goal.
Mrs. D. P. Miller returned from Beaver to Oklahoma City, her son Reid’s homecoming from overseas hastening departure. Mrs. Harry Kagan visited Beaver from Lipscomb Texas en route home near Forgan after nursing influenza patients. A. F. Brown of Lakemore plans a joint sale with Rev. J. O. Davis on Brown’s farm. Brown quits farming, Davis moves to another pastorate. An unusually large Beaver crowd enjoyed a day of business and pleasure in the county seat on fine weather. Dorn-To County Superintendent and Mrs. G. L. Ayers welcomed a 9 pound son. T. W. Gray, livestock breeder, visited the county seat. B. B. Marian of Logan called in, while Zimmerman and wife from Ratko were Beaver visitors Saturday.
The state issues a charter authorizing the Kansas and Oklahoma railroad from Liberal to Forgan with a feeder line toward the Texas line. Backed by O. P. Byers and others, the project promises real business but will require preliminary work before construction. Citizens south of Liberal should prepare as livestock will encounter tracks.
Mayor Longan explains city funds shifted to light and water maintenance due to war and bond shortfalls. No money to build street crossings or walks. aim to provide walks to churches and the school once bond sales are settled. Resolution awaits bond sale outcome.

Beaver county sent five delegates to the State Convention in Oklahoma City last week. A Sunday School Rally at the Christian church Sunday evening April 6 at 6 will feature convention debaters and Judge Parker of Buffalo who will address the meeting. Judge Parker led Harper county in Sunday School work last year. Mrs. W. S. Leonard County Secretary reports details.
