Gladstone Variety Entertainers open 184th season

The Gladstone Variety Entertainers inaugurated their 184th season with a non stop show at the Gladstone Institute on Thursday September 25. A packed house applauded each act led by Mr. and Mrs. Fin Cohen. Notable performers included Daphne Jones Blaine Inglis Jim Lee and Beryl Sambell with a large cast, an Alan Lines led orchestra and Eva Cohen as producer. Gross proceeds reached about £110 with net profits aiding rock frontiers in a competition. volunteers and patrons praised the effort and generosity of local helpers.

Jamestown Scouts Celebrate Silver Jubilee Event

Jamestown marked a silver jubilee with a September 27 Scout Hall gathering attended by over 70 Scouts and Cubs from Gladstone Crystal Brook and local troops. Chief Commissioner H W Rymill Deputy Commissioner G B Coleman and others spoke celebrated the troop’s 85 year history and opened a new Scout Wall. The afternoon featured displays First Aid Morse signaling and a Lilly Bolling competition followed by a well attended Scout Tex tea and a camp fire concert with pyramid tumbling and singing.

Coursing at Jamestown Jampton Plumpton Club meeting results

A large gathering at Jamestown Plumpton on Wednesday September 24 saw the Middle North Plumton Club run two 12 dog class stakes and a sapling and all aged stake. Ralph Napper judged well with T Fahey and J H Smour & Sons catering. Results list multiple matches with Gift Favourite, Five Tip, Bawnen, Caltowie Chief, Flying Favourite, Just Dilly and others across rounds and stakes. A final warning about guarding troop movements closes the report.
