Jubilee Fair at Gladstone Raises Funds for Church

A well attended Jubilee Fair organized by the Gladstone Ladies Guild for the Methodist Church ran November 19 at District Hall. The event featured a lively program by local performers and raised net £257 11s 7d, up from last year’s £227 4s 1d.

Frolic at Gladstone Children Present Fancy Costumes

A St Josephs School Gladstone frolic drew many parents and friends on Saturday. Children in fancy dress won prizes such as Robert Hollitt Turk and Mavis Windley gypsy. Special awards went to Fred Tybell swaggy and Judith Maddigan post office. Judges were Mesdames Archer and Weinert.

University Music Examinations Results At St Josephs Convent

The pupils of St Josephs Convent Gladstone presented results from the University music examinations. Mavis Blesing passed Grade V piano forte. Bruce Thomson earned Honours in Grade VI. Christobel Thomson gained credit in Grade VI. Pamela Both received credit in Grade VI.

Gladstone CWA Hosts International Day Honoring Scotland

The Gladstone branch of the CWA held an International Day at Memorial Hall with about 100 attendees. Decorations featured Scotch thistles and flags, and Miss E Dunsford spoke on Scotland. A cork Balmorall Castle model, Scottish wit awards, a recitation, gramophone airs, a ditty, and community singing highlighted the event.

Belalie Tennis Association Premiership Standings and Results

In the 1946-47 A Grade premiership, Caltowie leads with 12 points followed by Jamestown Methodist and Jamestown Town on 10 and 4 points respectively. November 23 results include Methodist defeating Gladstone Blue and Jamestown Town beating Georgetown Blue, with detailed doubles and singles results for both matches. The second half resumes January 18, 1947.

Second Victory Loan oversubscribed with 190000 subscribers

The loan subscriptions closed on November 15 oversubscribed by 538 millions with about 190,000 subscribers. Cash portion £64,000,000, securities worth £26,000,000 at 24 pc interest maturing November 15 included. Conversions total £17,000,000 from 67,000 subscribers. Local totals show Jamestown £10,999, Gulnare £2,160, Laura £3,770, Georgetown £3,120, Gladstone £5,260.

Jamestown Amateur Swimming Club Opens Baths for 1946 47 Season

Jamestown Amateur Swimming Club announced the opening of its baths for the 1946 47 season on Saturday December 7 1946. Improvements around the pool are underway funded by committee members and enthusiasts including Max Haese Johnson and McKenzie. A carnival with learners races dives teams race and separate boys and girls events will follow after a brief opening ceremony entries close December 6 with volunteers sought from parents and club members.

Jamestown CWA Branch Notes Farewell For Matron Law

Jamestown CWA held a December meeting with Mrs Brogan presiding. The December balance shows the branch sound with Building Fund over £700 and a £22 8s 10d charity from the November Ball. Members welcomed Mrs Price from Dimboola CWA and planned a January social hour and a December hospital visit roster. Matron Law received farewell remarks and a floral gift from Mrs Symonds as she departs from hospital auxiliary duties.
