Special Meeting of Ratepayers at Spalding
A large turnout of ratepayers at Spalding on November 16 discussed District Council assessments. Mr A P Blesing MLC sent sympathy and suggested aligning council values with Land Tax figures, with adjustments for improvements. Chairman Donnellan deplored uneven assessments and welcomed calls for future corrections and advice.

The Den Ball Dazzles Port Pirie with Music and Magic
The Den staged a November 8 ball at Gladstone Institute drawing dancers to a fairyland setting with mirror effects and The Den sign. Leon Rodda’s Harmonique Orchestra entertained eight players while Brian Schwartz MC’d and sang novelty numbers. A film of the dancers will be shown at the Grand Repeat Ball on November 22, and a Mys tifying Moments of Magic stage act will feature. The Den, four years old, supports patriotic and charitable causes and runs a club room in David Street Port Pirie. Future events include Gladstone November 22 and Jamestown November 29, Laura December 6.

Death of Mr W S Ballantyne in Gladstone
William Stanley Ballantyne died suddenly at the Gladstone homestead on Friday November 8. He was a World War I veteran of the 18th Battalion wounded at Bullecourt and a longtime farmer near Gladstone. Survived by his widow and five children, two brothers, two sisters, and a large RSL presence attended the service with tributes and prayers.
