The third Gadstone Social and Dance Club evening at the Institute Hall drew a large crowd despite bad roads and weather. The Port Pirie Tempo Orchestra arrived late, with Mrs T H Wynes and Mr G Bardsley providing music until then. The Mayor and Mayoress led the polonaise, prizes were won, and Mr Bardsley was feted on leaving for England.
Forty years ago the Gladstone Improvement Society held its season kickoff with officers elected for president E Coe Jr and vice presidents A C Catt and W J Sims. Georgetown residents honored G Bundley with an address and gold Albert before his departure. A public vigilante committee formed at the Institute, with H W Hughes B J Knight G Growden J R Creber T Bastard A C Catt and W Hancock named. The Institute appointed Abel Marriott custodian. A farewell social for Jas Ferguson J P preceded his departure, with Mayor B J Knight and W J Hughes presiding. The Institute subscribers later elected H W Hughes president and J R Creber treasurer among others.
