Fire at Canowie Belt Destroys Wheat Crop
Firefighters from Jamestown area were called to a grass fire on the J W Wedding property at Canowie Belt. A hundred men fought shifting winds and damp air, extinguishing the blaze in under an hour. About 100 acres were burned including some standing wheat crop.

New Year Mixed Tournament Crowned at James Town Bowling Club
New Year’s Eve bowls at James Town Bowling Club featured a mixed tournament in mild conditions. Miss Callary led her team to victory over Sir George Jenkins with a last end shot. runners-up included Jenkins, Miss Souter, and Mrs. B. Evans. Silver spoons were awarded by Mr. Daly and Mr. Hockey as Auld Lang Syne marked midnight.
