Georgetown District Council Meeting Notes February 15 1937

District Council of Georgetown met at Gulnare on Monday February 15 1937 with Drs H Smart chairing and members present. Highlights include petitions for Yacka street bitumenising, road work on Gulnare Spalding road, purchase of a woven metallic yardstick, water supply meeting at Snowtown, signs for Murphy's corner and Bundaleer Bridge, closure of Narridy road, a £1 donation to Blind Desi and Dumb Institution, and tenders for road reconditioning on Clover Hill road.

Gladstone Women's Welfare Club Holds Welcoming Meeting

A meeting at Gladstone Primary School drew a large crowd with several new members. Acting chair Mrs. L Samhell welcomed Mr. and Mrs. R Mundy and remarks were supported by Mrs. W Stoker. Afternoon tea followed with performances and prizes awarded to Mrs. W Ballantyne and Mrs. R Mundy.

Gladstone Rifle Club marks eighth annual Page Trophy shoot

The Gladstone Rifle Club held its eighth Club competition on February 20 for the Page, Grubb and Hermann Trophies. A double round of ten shots and two fighters at 500 yards amid a strong right wind haze and dust. D. A. Flavel won the sweepstake with 98. P. A. Lines topped rifle scoring with 91. Other results list names and scores across multiple shooters in the field.

Farewell in St Alban’s for Becker Couple

A large St Alban’s Church congregation bid farewell to Mr and Mrs F E Becker who retire to Gladstone. The ceremony led by Rev A H White praised their church service and presented gifts including a travelling rug a church interior photograph and a bouquet of asters.

Jamestown Defeats Crystal Brook Narrowly In Shield Match

Jamestown upset Crystal Brook by three points in the Boucher Shield as visiting bowlers scored 115 to 112. Jamestown's lineup included Heron W Blaskett, B Williams, McLennan, Sordon, and others with notable totals. Crystal Brook's side featured Weston Lines Peake Monday Thomas Treloar and several players, with high scores by Robinson Giles Gilbert Heaslip Townsend Kiely and Symons.

Caltowie Institute Sees Improved Finances At 67th Annual Meeting

The Caltowie Institute held its 67th annual meeting on Wednesday February 17 with President Mr D A Crossman in the chair. The report notes reduced debt to £212 0s 11d, a tighter balance, higher receipts in rents and subscriptions, and £38 11s 9d raised by the Coursing Luncheon. The year saw eight new subscribers and 2513 books plus 1426 magazines issued. 126 Lincoln chairs were purchased for better seating. officials from the Institute Association of South Australia visited. The committee acknowledges the secretary Mr Morton and treasurer Mr R Parri.
