Farewell social for Mr and Mrs E G Guiney at Gladstone

A large, representative gathering at the Gladstone Institute marked the farewell to Mr E G Guiney and his wife after five years in Gladstone. Speakers praised his work, especially in woodwork, and presented an upholstered arm chair as a token of esteem.

Gladstone and Georgetown cricket results with historical notes

From Out the Past notes three Saturday cricket results Gladstone beat Laura 184 to 142 Georgetown defeated Narridy 36 to 31 and Beetaloo overcame Caltowie 74 to 72. The notice recalls deaths and anniversaries from 1897 to 1917 plus a 1887 match result Crystal Brook.

Ford V-8 Engine Approved for Airplane Use

The Ford V-8 becomes the first standard motor car engine to gain United States Commerce Department approval for aircraft use. Arrow Aircraft Corp plans a four-plane-per-day low-wing monoplane production powered by the Ford V-8, with trials showing 500 ft per minute climb, 350 mile range, 100 mph top speed, and 45 mph landing speed. Ford provides service and parts worldwide though not financially linked to the project.

Popular pupils stage song and dance under Miss Morcom

A lively event featured pupils trained for the chorus by Mrs. H. T. Harslett and for the dance by Miss Morcom with music from Mr. A. Lawrie. Harslett served as M C. Supper followed a successful function. Women's Welfare Club announced a meeting at the Primary School on Friday February 19 at 2 30 pm for members to meet Mr. and Mrs. Mundy.
