Jamestown Race Meeting in Heat at Jamestown
Hot weather marked the Jamestown race meeting with about 400 in attendance and £740 gate takings. Dust was mitigated by course lawns while betting surged, bookmakers earned £4,088 on Tote turnover and £36 in bookmaker fees. Dusty Day won the President's Handicap by a half head over Marjorie Bee as Musical Miss won the Belalie Trials, with Canowie Stakes and other races producing local wins. Officials praised the crowd, staff, and emergency services as Stanley Hawker MP presented the cup.

RSS and ALLS Meeting Focuses on Sub-Branch Conference
The February monthly meeting led by President E Wight covered extensive correspondence. Plans for a Mid-Northern Sub-Branch conference at Jamestown on April 3 expect delegates from about twenty sub-branches, with full details to follow. A Button Day will support the Nurses Memorial, and feature items from Back magazine are urged. Horse racing results and betting at Canowrie Stakes and related events are listed with winners and times.

Harvest Services and Activities At Jamestown Methodist Church
Jamestown Methodist Church held three Harvest Thanksgiving Services last Sunday with floral decor and a Food for Britain table. Rev. A F Barnes, Pastor G Milne, and Rev. B H Phillips led the services. the choir conducted by H Medlin, with J Shurray as organist. The Order of Knights and Girls Comradeship began its year with indoor cricket, Barbara Bradman top-scoring with 15 runs and Betty Lindwall achieving a hat trick. A Cafe Musicale is planned for March 12 at the Town Hall. initiation and officer installation for the girls is set for March 18. The Methodist Conference opens February 24 in Adelaide. Rev. Phillips departs Thursday for pre-conference committees. D T Brooks and S A Cram serve as lay circuit representatives.

Obituary of Robert Brown Jamestown district farmer dies at 78
Robert Brown of Jamestown district died at Jamestown Hospital on February 11 at age 78. Born in Port Adelaide, he farmed locally before retiring to Jamestown. His wife, nee Miss Haeusler, died in 1940. Funeral February 12 was well attended. Revd. B. H. Phillips conducted services. No family survives.

Jamestown Croquet ladies hosted Crystal Brook players on February 4 with mixed results. Dunsford and Pavy fell to Medlin and Williams 17 26. Thomas and Ellis beat Moore and Thomas 26 16. Thompson and Bus bridge lost to Wight and Skelton 12 26. On February 7 four Jamestown ladies visited Caloundle for two matches, Medlin and Moore defeating Symonds and Bennett 26 17, Thomas and Charlton losing to Tidswell and Skelton 18 26.
