Harvest Thanksgiving Services at Gladstone Methodist Church will be held Sunday next February 20. Rev R V Grant will conduct morning and evening services and Mrs Grant will speaker at the afternoon children's service.
The late James Platten who died at Jamestown is remembered for his early life in Auburn and farming near Yongala and Peterborough. He later worked in masonry, married Sarah Wannah Lawles, and lived 54 years in Yongala as a Methodist. Survived by Hurtle J. Platten and Mrs Miller. eldest son drowned in 1903 and another son died in a horse accident at 13. Buried in Yongala cemetery.
Florence Kelly of Glenelg writes on February 4 1943 to publish condolences from the Army Nurses Fund Committee over the death of James Pilkington. He aided financial support and inspiration to the nurses and fund, and the committee asks Jamestown people to continue their past assistance.

The Georgetown Institute subscribers held their annual meeting last Tuesday evening led by President Rev. J Chatfield. They reported 1943 receipts of £75 with £81 in expenditure and a £69 balance. Officers elected included Rev J Chatfield president and G G Harrington secretary treasurer with a committee including C A Woodward F T Acott and N L Wellington. A sub-committee was formed to handle boxes of hooks from the Institutes Association. Georgetown Wheat Growers branch met last Saturday to discuss trucking and yarding for live stock. Railways Department is repainting Georgetown houses and the station building. E J Wood moved from Gawler to Georgetown. Residents approve a Picnic Race meet at Laura Racecourse to aid service personnel from Laura and District. A strong committee led by Mr J Conden and Mr H B Pascoe plans donations and stakemones, with joint secretaries Cooke and Karger. Further details to follow in upcoming issues.
A tribute to Australian farmers and the food industry was given by Colonel Hester of the U S Army at a Bacchus Marsh Victoria display of agricultural machinery. Officials and farmers attended as leaders praised Australia’s food front progress and advances in large scale vegetable farming and new implements.
The late James Pilkington died suddenly at Jamestown on February 3. He bred Merino sheep and Shorthorn cattle at Broadview Belalie and won cups at Adelaide and Jamestown shows. He supported Jamestown Racing Club Belalie Agricultural Society Jamestown Hospital and Army Nurses Fund. Burial at Jamestown Cemetery on February 4. Survived by his widow Margaret Madigan and brother John Pilkington.
