Following a request from the General Organiser of the Legacy War Orphan appeal the Laura District Council is constituted as a committee to conduct the appeal in Laura and district. A voluntary quota of 50 pounds is set and donations should go to Hon. Secretary R J Cooke Box 18 Laura. We owe a debt to the men who sacrifice their lives for us.
The report records a high of 109 degrees on Monday January 31 and rapid fluctuations. By Wednesday February 16 at about 5 am frost appeared on wood-heaps in Jamestown, corroborated by Mr Robert Napper, with prior cold conditions observed during travel from Peterborough.

A group of enterprising children organized a Vaudeville performance at R. White's home last Saturday to raise funds for the RSS and AILA Club Room Fund. Valma McDougall led the act with Ann White Kay Francis Rita Little and Shirley Dunn among the helpers. Bob and Pat White managed box office drinks and toffee. The audience was limited and the event reportedly improved, with plans for a future show to involve the Review staff.
Gladstone FFCP holds its usual fortnightly meeting this afternoon at the Memorial Hall. A large parcel of reading matter was donated by Mrs. G. C. Sandow and will be included in goods sent to Adelaide in a few days. Two veteran residents Mesdames Chap dell and Berryman Sen. have produced many pairs of socks and warm clothing for the fighting forces, aiding the worthy cause thanks to their generous wealth and support. Mrs. Chap dell also writes to soldier Gus Graham, who is reported to be well and sends his best wishes.
At Jamestown Institute on Saturday night Lester's presents Goldwyn's The Pride of the Yankees with Gary Cooper and Teresa Wright, a romance and drama. The Falcon Takes Over stars George Sanders and Lyn Bari in a crime drama. Tuesday February 12 features The Son of Panamint with Charles Augustus, Ellen Drew and Phillip Terry, a Peter B Kyne tale about Panamint's fall to greed and hypocrisy.
In response to persistent efforts by Mr. F. H. Russell, Minister Scully announces expanded availability of wire netting, corrugated iron, and piping for irrigation. The move follows conferences with Minister N. J. O. Makin and aims to aid primary producers despite defence material constraints. Scully commends Russell for his persistence.
