Speed Costs and Saving Lives in Highway Travel

The piece argues that higher speeds reduce travel time but raise accident risk and costs. It cites examples where increasing speed from 35 to 45 saves 6.4 hours per 1000 miles at 3/9 per hour saved, and from 55 to 65 saves 2.8 hours at 17/6 per hour. It warns hospital, doctor bills, and suffering outweigh fuel savings, urging drivers to slow down to save money and lives.
