Mail Weight Rise in Empire Air Service Figures Release
Official figures show letter air mails from England on the Empire Service rose to 330 200 lbs, up 48 percent, with other services outside Europe at 33 300 lbs and a 20 percent gain. Total European and extra European air mail weight reached 768 400 lbs, a 22 percent increase, while air mail between England and Europe totaled 402 000 lbs, up 179 percent. The British Post Office paid £444 000 for air mail carriage, £259 000 to Imperial Airways and £185 000 to other Empire companies.
