Gladstone District Council ratepayers meet in small turnout
At the Institute Hall the Gladstone District Council held its annual ratepayers meeting with Dr I F O Neill presiding. The report noted roads and footpaths kept in good order, trees planted, and a financial overdraft of 70 pounds. It covered council personnel changes, 12 ordinary and 3 special meetings, road works including 74 miles of new roads, footpath resurfacing, and a proposed new high school. The Governor inspected a military camp nearby, and plans for civil defense and aviation facilities were discussed. The chair thanked council members, the district clerk Budge, and ratepayers, with adoption of the report by motion.
