Agricultural Conditions Report on July Weather and Crops
The Upper North District reports 317 points of rainfall in Jamestown for July, boosting crop prospects despite boisterous weather and low temperatures. Rust appears in rust-susceptible early sown crops east of Eudunda and on Baroota plains, while normal sowings show little disease. Fallowing progresses despite heavy stubble from Wireweed, stock condition is generally good though sheep suffer in bad weather. Swine erysipelas is widespread across districts. Feed supplies are abundant, with stock scarce, potentially enabling heavier seeding and soil humus buildup.

Inflation contrasts skeptically with Australia during US visit
During a U S visit en route to London Mr G Howey president of the Australian Dairy Farmers Federation warned of high inflation in America. He noted costs of production were higher in the United States and that Australian and New Zealand dairy products would remain competitive abroad. He contrasted Canada’s pegged prices and stronger dollar with American costs and farm values.
