Norman Smith in a Studebaker Roadster with Goodyear balloons shattered Fremantle Adelaide, Fremantle Melbourne, and Fremantle Sydney records. He left Fremantle at 6 am March 31, reached Adelaide in 64 hours 33 minutes, Melbourne in 82 hours 65 minutes, and Sydney with further rapid progress. The feat followed a 24 hour Australasian record effort, amid fog, rain, and Nullabor hazards.
