Lee brothers killed after gun battle in Texas frontier
In Galaksville Texas September 9 a farmer’s wagon brought the dead bodies of outlaws Jim and Pink Lee. Texas Ranger Heck Thomas and two companions tracked them to Harris Township near Dexter. A fierce gunfight near John Washington’s place ended with both brothers dead. Coroner’s inquest confirmed the deaths and said large rewards were earned by Thomas and his assistants. The Lee gang had terrorized the frontier since May, stealing cattle to the Indian Territory. Bill Lee was captured in May and sent to Fort Smith to face trial.
