Blaine libel suit questions in Yankee article
The Sentinel Company’s answer in the Blaine libel suit was filed in federal court. The defense denies falsehood in the August 1894 article and presents a long list of interrogatories for Blaine to answer under oath about his marriage to Harriet Stanwood, their courtship, a possible child, and related matters. The case aims for limited, expedited jury action in October with assurances of a speedy proof of facts.

Postmaster General Cuts Rates on Government Memores
The Post Master General announces new rates under the 1860 act for government telegrams and memos. For day service under twenty miles the rate is twenty cents plus five cents per extra twenty four miles and fifty miles fractional. for distances beyond twenty miles the charge increases. Signals and weather data are set at revised levels and intermediate points may be routed with no rate change. The measure aims to ensure government services are not priced higher than public rates.
