After-Sight and Independent Republican Reflections
A poem titled After Sight laments a past mistake and praises a royal virtue. The McPherson Independent speech defends Independent Republican ideals, arguing for individual judgment, reverence for veterans, and loyalty to foundational leaders. It urges readers to honor the party’s founders and resist purges of its oldest members. Notes on local farm life, reunions, and land transactions follow, ending with a public notice about voting places and a business dissolution.
Accident at home injures Mrs Higinbotham
Mrs W B Higinbotham fell down a trap door into a cyclone cellar after it was left open. She sprained her ankle bruised her shoulder and other parts but no bones were broken. Dr Roberts says she will be home for several weeks with no lasting injury. Also notes a visit from Mr David Hays of Cedar Creek who came to Kansas about 1855.
