First American Ensign Shop Linked to Arch Street House

An 18th century Arch Street building is noted as the site where the Continental Congress and George Washington oversaw the making of the first American flag at Elizabeth Ross’s shop at 259 Arch. The tale describes the room layout, a preserved fireback, the attic, and the back kitchen added recently. Amelia Maul, current owner, recounts decades of use as a tailors shop and tavern while urging the Historical Society to save and move the relic to a park near William Penn’s Letitia Street house.

Gait of criminals and a medical detective tale

Dr Peracchia analyzes how criminals walk to distinguish them from honest citizens. He links wider base of support and longer steps to thieves, and a less obtuse foot axis with stronger sinistrality to assassins. The piece cites caution on applying these traits for practical detection.
