Excursion planned to Abilene via Union Pacific

At the Real Estate Exchange meeting last night a large excursion to Abilene and an auction sale of lots were arranged. J I McMaster & Co will handle all details. Departures will begin from Kansas City St Joe and Topeka and arrival is set for August 2. The T P A session may extend to that date.

Disappearance Reveals Bigger Troubles for Cormack

Minneapolis man W A Cormack vanished after facing deeper troubles than first thought. Creditors include an Abilene firm set to lose 1800 dollars. He misappropriated funds for Minneapolis groups, notably 90 dollars for the Woman's Relief Corps. A house and lot was placed on record the day he disappeared, though deed had been in his wife’s possession since May. He even ordered three gasoline store shipments to eastern friends, suggesting impaired judgment.

An Abilene Man Honored

Abilene man F. A. Smalley traveled to Stockton Kansas where the district court held an extra session to examine him for admission to the bar. A three member examining committee reported unanimously in his favor after a two hour rigorous test. The senior member praised his high achievement remarking it the best exam he had heard in Kansas. Judge Pratt praised the student and the FLECTOR sent congratulations on admission to practice in Kansas courts.

Route Agent Campbell Appoints Abi lene Agent

Route Agent Campbell of Wells Pargo Co. went east this morning after spending yesterday in the city. During his stay he named C. F. Estes as agent for the company at Abi lene. Charley is popular, always willing to please and accommodate.

Institute Notes Open With Good Attendance

The institute opened this morning with 94 enrollments and Prof. Cook supplied anatomy teaching with White's physiological manikin. Notable visitors included the Rev. Humphrey and poet teacher M. Marger. Mr. Harger will be principal of the Hope school next year. Several teachers from Hancock and Delphos attended, and a Gazette reporter joined to see the electricity powered press demonstration after 7:30 p.m. The enrolled members include Diehl Betz, Chapman, Lillie Murphy, Sutphens Mill, B. C. Swank, Woodbine, S. M. Lesher, W. L. Lesher, Mary Howland, Cora M. Lott, Abilene, Bertha Read, Sutphen's Mill, Mrs. A. H. Riggs, A. C. Deitz.

Dr. Oakwood tends Morris who suffered a fractured skull after a club blow at the railroad camp north of the city and expects recovery. Tony Welby of the C. K.N. boarding outfit crushed his foot when a rail fell last night. the injured limb was treated by Dr. Oakwood this morning.

Keller and Tisdale list corn at 15 cents and potatoes from 50 to 75, turnips 40 to 50, cucumbers 8 to 10 per dozen, peas and beans 60 per peck, cabbage 4 cents per pound, beets 75 cents, bushes and apples $2, eggs 10 to 12, butter 8 to 12. Thomas Doyle, a C. K. and W railroader, traveled to Kansas City recently and returned in an excited state. He appeared at the local establishment last night and met with the mayor this morning, resulting in the standard fines or penalties. He is today enforcing city duties due to lack of funds.

Gun Club Moves to Gratis Henry Tract Site

The gun club will relocate its grounds to the Henry tract, donated for free use, and construct new buildings there. W. C. Silvey, a year member who has not shot much, will compete henceforth as a crack shot likely to post strong scores.

New Bank Head to Move Family to Abilene

H. Barker is due in Abilene from Portland, Maine with his family and belongings to establish Abilene National Bank as president. The bank will organize after arrival and open in the former Kansas Farm Mortgage Company building to serve the public.

He Will Stay in Abilene After Reacquiring Home

E. T. Ellison sold his Vine Street residence to C. B. Knight of Boston for 5500 to move elsewhere. Yesterday he repurchased it for 6000, deciding not to leave Abilene and remaining one of the city's best citizens. The note cost him 500 to learn it was impossible to forswear Abilene after settling there.
