Battery Complaint Sparks Arrest Warrant in Manchester

William Masters, a Santa Fe railroad worker near Manchester, swore out a warrant for Patrick Coyne on assault and battery. Coyne, boss of the rival gang, allegedly mauled Masters, who bore scars as evidence. The warrant was handed to Bill Appleman for service, with Appleman reportedly arming himself in preparation for the action.

Work of an Impostor Provokes Indian Tribes Telegrams

A Salina Herald communication signed Red Man drew hostile replies from Kaw and Shabbona tribes. Telegrams dated July 25 to 38 from Sarina Abilene and Salina deny authorship and condemn the piece. The messages accuse the author of trying to disgrace the company and urge readers to see today’s Journal.
