Fulda Man Takes Own Life Over Domestic Troubles

Alexander Coffitt, sixty, a prosperous Fulda resident, killed himself with a razor in Minneapolis after domestic troubles. He left a note asking to be taken to Fulda and cared for, dying minutes later from a severed jugular. Coffitt's property was valued at $12,000. his wife had just obtained a divorce decree. He had gone to Minneapolis to consult his brother and stayed at H P Lindquist’s home overnight.

Milwaukee Road to Fight 2-Cent Law

St Paul May 23 Attorneys for the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul road will contest the legality of the two cent passenger fare law enacted by the recent legislature. Lawyers attend a conference in the east and will return in a week when action will begin on the ground that the law is invalid.

Albany May 3 The senate reconfirmed Otto Kelsey as state superintendent of insurance one year from his original appointment by Governor Higgins. Only 24 of 26 votes needed for removal were cast in favor of Governor Hughes recommendation. Twenty seven votes opposed the removal. The decision drew applause from the floor and gallery.

In Huron South Dakota on May 3 a fire originating from the heating plant destroyed the Blum Brewing Co bottling plant, a 25 by 100 foot building with about $3,000 loss insured. The Berry feed mill was also damaged by fire, but swift firefighting averted major damage.

Small Boy Burns Jewels in Bonfire in St Louis

Mrs J P French of 6719 Detmar Avenue reported the loss of jewels valued at 89000 after her son burned a sack containing the gems hidden in a waste paper basket. Neighbors saw two men searching through the ashes shortly after the blaze. Police were alerted and search continues.

Roosevelt nomination queried by Morton in Wheeling

Paul Morton president of the Equitable Life Assurance society and former secretary of the navy spoke in Wheeling on May 3. He said Theodore Roosevelt could have the nomination if he sought it and that the Republican National convention would likely nominate him by acclamation. Night Fire Destroys Hotel Carolina in Durham

A late night blaze in Durham on May 3 wrecked the four story Hotel Carolina, a frame structure in the city center. The fire caused about $176,060 in damage, insured. All occupants escaped unharmed, many in nightclothes.
