Oklahoma Statehood Bill Passed by Senate

Washington March 10 At 5 85 P m the senate passed a bill for the admission of a new state to be called Oklahoma from the territory of Oklahoma and Indian Territory The measure struck out provisions relating to Arizona and New Mexico by a close vote 87 to 35 after a committee of the whole 35 to 36 The bill as amended provides for the creation of the state of Oklahoma with a constitution and the usual federal offices two senators and five representatives.

REJECT MINERS DEMANDS IN ANTHRACITE

New York report says the operators committee refused the United Mine Workers proposals for wage and condition readjustments in the anthracite fields. As counter offer, operators propose continuation of the strike commission awards for three more years from April 1, 1906, with the present agreement ending March 31. Further negotiations would follow if miners do not moderate demands.

Severe engagement at Jolo ends with heavy U S losses and Moro deaths

In Manila on March 9 a major clash near Jolo saw American forces and hostile Moros join forces against a common foe. Eighteen Americans were killed and fifty two wounded, among them Captain Rivers, Lieutenant Agnew, Lieutenant Johnston, Ensign Cook, and Captain White. Six hundred Moros were reported killed as the assault, led by Colonel Duncan, endured two days on lava ridges fortified by Moros, with artillery hoisted up steep slopes.
