Brooklyn Man Convicted of Assault on Twelve Year Old in Baltimore

Joseph M. Janer of Brooklyn was found guilty of felonious assault on Catherine Loerch, twelve, in Baltimore. He received a twenty one year sentence in the Maryland penitentiary, after a trial without jury before Judges Burke and Duncan. Janer claimed innocence, his wife attended the proceedings. The crime occurred after Janer brought the girl to Baltimore and subjected her to brutal mistreatment over two nights.

Secretary Wilson stands firm against bleached flour ruling

Washington March 11 a broad effort to force Secretary of Agriculture Wilson to reverse his ruling that flour bleached with nitrogen peroxide is adulterated food is under way. Mills and supporters flood letters to Congress and the secretary urging a referral to expert referees while Wilson insists the decision stands and courts remain open to appeals. He warns against tampering with the nation’s food saying he wants a pure product.

Operators Refuse Demands as Miners Meet in Philadelphia

In Philadelphia the anthracite coal operators rejected all miner demands at the Reading terminal today and proposed renewing the existing agreement for three years before its March 31 expiry. United Mine Workers president Thomas Lewis pledged to consult with his committee as miners plan to reconvene with the operators tomorrow afternoon.

Falls On Knife Leaves Child Badly Injured in Delmont

In Delmont South Dakota on March 11 a one year old daughter of Henry Anderst cut her head when a table knife slipped as she pared an apple. She fell outside and sustained a deep gash but is recovering. Baptie Loses Quarter Mile Crown in Cleveland Race

Nor yal Baptie of North Dakota, world co champion, surrendered the quarter mile honors to Morris Wood of New York in the opening professional skating series in Cleveland. Defense takes turn on Gooper gate

Nashville Tenn March 11 The fourth day of the Cooper Sharp trial for the murder of former Senator Carmack closed with General Washington of the defense midway through his argument and two more attorneys to follow. Washington finished his ninth hour of argument as the court adjourned at 6 pm and said he would conclude tomorrow followed by Judge Anderson and then Attorney General McCain to close for the state. Judge Hart urged submission of instructions for the charge. Washington praised his own wording and attacked the state's counsel singling out Attorney General J B Garner. Garner is reputed to flare into temper as Washington demanded Garner withdraw from the Toon during the address.

The District of Columbia Court of Appeals narrows an injunction in the Bucks Stove case, allowing the American Federation of Labor to refer to the boycott but limiting actions.
