The 1908 South Dakota Educational Association closes after a three day Aberdeen meeting with Judge Ben Lindsey of Denver delivering the final address. Attendees praised the program and entertainment, enrollment hit 658 the largest ever, and leaders endorsed juvenile court reform and school legislation while electing officers for the coming year.

Nixon Yards to Build Air Warship

New York, Dec 31. Nixon announces plans to construct an aerial warship 700 feet long at Nixon yards. The craft will carry 100 passengers with food and fuel for ocean voyages and will be armed with a full gun complement. Estimated cost tops $1,000,000. An Aerial Navigation Company of America with $50 million capital is to order the ship, with Thurlow Wee Barnes named president. The gas envelope uses silk wrapped in aluminum.

Burton Favored to Win Ohio Senate Nomination at Caucus

In Columbus on December 31, Theodore E. Burton of Cleveland is expected to be named by acclimation for the U S Senate to replace Joseph B Foraker after a rapid withdrawal shift. Charles P Taft’s exit and Hamilton County defections left Burton unopposed. caucus Saturday will be perfunctory and Burton to be elected January 12. Burton will serve out his term in the House, with a special election in Cleveland to choose his successor.

Bad railroad accident in Minnesota grounds trains wrecked

Hard Time for Mitchell Couple to Wed

Don Dockendorth and Miss Sarah Bank of Amery eluded parental interference and wed in S. D. on Christmas night after a chase to reach Mitchell. The groom secured a wagon and delivered his bride 928 miles from Amery to the city where a justice of the peace officiated.

Jeffries Refuses $50,000 Fight With Johnson

Melbourne note says James J Jeffries declined John Wren's offer of a $50,000 purse to fight Jack Johnson for the World heavyweight title. Wren hoped the bout would occur on Melbourne Cup Day in November. Jeffries replied he will fight no more.

Has Parents Appear For Him In Hains Case

General Peter C. Hains and his wife Virginia Praine testified for Thornton J. Hains, detailing Claudia Hains and William H. Annis relations that led to a family rift. The defense seeks to prove Captain Hains was mentally unbalanced at the time of the fatal shooting, citing early life weakness as a predisposing factor. Tom Peaver Dies at Sisseton Home

Tom Peaver owner of the Peever Mercantile company and a leading department store figure in the state, died at his Sisseton residence after a lengthy illness. Relatives were at his bedside as death neared. He was active in Masonic circles and Aberdeen Consistory No. 4. A special Pullman coach will carry many friends to Henderson, Minnesota, for internment tomorrow.

Only One Road Will Build This Year Northern Pacific Plans

Chicago Dec 31 The Railway Journal tomorrow will print letters from railway heads. Among items shown only Northern Pacific contemplates extensions in the new year. President Howard Hillett of the Northern Pacific said they have plans for new lines but will not publicize them now.

U S Ship Aids Quake Survivors

The United States supply ship Celtic sailed from New York on a relief mission to Messina carrying navy rations and supplies for Calabrian and Sicilian earthquake survivors. Commanded by Harry McL. P. Huse the ship will proceed to Gibraltar after delivering aid.
