Pioneering Wheat Harvest Machines Cut Labor Costs
A 19th century description explains the header and binder machines for wheat harvest. The header cuts stalks just below the head, producing an eight to twelve foot swath, with horses powering the unit. A binder works with a header to speed harvesting, moving the cut sheaf to a belt and barge system for stacking, reducing field labor and delaying shock formation. A combined binder and picker is under test, and headers prove essential when wheat is short.

Ground admission about ten cents, with ten to twenty five cent entertainment, free tent displays, a spiral tower and electric fountain, parades and decorated Main Street to attract crowds and boost the harvest festival.
