Austin, June 11. The railroad commission, three days behind its docket, extended the advanced freight rate hearing for at least a week. After finishing sand stone and gravel, it will consider coal and lignite rates and then livestock. B C Richards of Round Rock testified that lignite tariffs would add 51 cents. Traffic expert R O McCormack presented petitions from multiple chambers and associations opposing proposed switching charges.

Texas establishes typhus quarantine against Mexico

Texas acts to bar entry of people from Mexico due to typhus spread along the southern border. The quarantine runs from Brownsville to Laredo and covers all border points and intermediates, with county and city health officers empowered to enforce it. Frederick J. Hussenius, said to be from a Swedish noble line but estranged, shot and killed his fiancée Anna Malmquist a music teacher in Central Park and then killed himself.
