German protest over French Rhine occupation sparks international tension
Dispatches from Copenhagen report Germany warned France over its occupation of Frankfurt and right bank territories, insisting the Versailles terms require allied rather than unilateral action. In Berlin two thousand Communists crossed the Rhine into the British zone, with 1200 more expected, signaling Ruhr unrest easing. A Munich plot to install Ludendorff as dictator was exposed, while Greek troops prepared to advance in Asia Minor. Britain and Italy reportedly hesitate to back any French move into Germany, urging caution. Paris notes that German troops into the Ruhr disrupted talks on an economic understanding, suggesting a nationalist faction pressed radical action after Versailles constraints.
