South Texas DA Pushes to Dismantle Starr County Bail Bond Board
Starr County District Attorney Heriberto Silva backs dissolving the 10 member bail bond board, arguing jail crowding and favoritism. Sheriff Reymundo Guerra would gain control over who can post bonds, while bail bondsmen led by Dave Jones oppose the move citing livelihood loss and political pressure. A 2 PM vote was planned, with past cases cited of releases to family members and a 1998 kickback context.
