Moore Memorial Public Library Established in Texas City
In September 1928 city officials set aside a room in city hall for a library. R D Dowdy became the first librarian earning ten dollars daily. After 1947 an explosion damaged the building the Evans house at Fifth Street and Ninth Avenue North became the next library. Named for Hugh Benton Moore the library moved in 1964 to 1701 Ninth Avenue North with a July 23 dedication. Michael Smith, Texas City Sun reporter.

Plantersville man gets new trial in drunken boat crash
A state appeals court for Beaumont orders a new trial for Reginald Morris, Plantersville, after ruling the judge erred by admitting only one of two statements about who drove the speedboat that killed three aboard a Lake Conroe cabin cruiser. Morris had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.
