Festival of Pinatas enliven Cinco de Mayo in Texas City
The Texas City Museum hosts an exhibit from the University of Texas Institute of Texan Cultures to mark Cinco de Mayo 2000. The exhibit traces pinata origins from Renaissance Italy to Spain and Mexico, with displays of incomplete pinatas. The festival features a Friday banquet at the Doyle Center, a Saturday Cinco de Mayo parade led by Larry Stanley, and a Rotary Pavilion festival with mariachis, dancers, booths, and pinatas. Sponsorship comes from the city, College of the Mainland, BP Amoco, Texas First Bank, and local LULAC, with tickets via Alice Whistler.
