Missionary Crusade Mobilizes Lay Powers in Baker Diocese
The Baker diocese, covering southern Oregon, spans 66 147 square miles with 18 384 Catholics among 245 992 residents. Bishop Francis P. Leipzig seeks a Catholic Census and Information Program to mobilize 18 000 lay missionaries alongside 47 priests to reclaim inactive Catholics and win over non church goers. Clergy meetings in Klamath Falls Hermiston and Baker express optimism about enlisting laity for mass outreach and school expansion.
