Episcopal bishops rebuke ordination of women deacons
In Chicago over 100 Episcopal bishops meeting hastily declared the ordination of 11 women 17 days earlier invalid though not to be tried. They issued a mild reproof, noting church law allows deacons but not priests and required local bishop approval which was lacking. In Manila Father William Masterson from Brooklyn won a Magsaysay award for service to Asia.

It notes universalized salvation beyond Jew and Gentile, the need for human effort in cooperation with divine grace, and the central place of salvation in Scripture.
