Commerce Church Legacy Dates to 1895 in Texas
The Commerce church story begins with Mrs. Mary O'Brien bringing six children in 1890. A small frame church named St. Peter's arose in 1895 after land donation by Mr. DeVaney. First services were held June 1895 with Father O'Hara from Dallas. The article notes several pastors and two weddings in the late 1890s and mid-20th century, with Mass suspended during 1941-45 due to war.
