Record Water Use in Arlington Surpasses All Time Peak
Arlington residents pumped 10,136,800 gallons Saturday, the highest daily total on record. Friday had 9.5 million, August 6 previously 9.6 million, with lawns and shrubs driving demand. Sunday’s rain cooled use to 7,024,700 and Monday fell to 4,045,000 as cooler weather lingers. About 5.4 million gallons came from the city wells and the rest from the lake filtration system, mainly Lake Arlington and nearby TESCO wells.

Sewell to Lead United Fund Drive in Arlington
Kirby Sewell district commercial manager of Texas Electric Service Company will head the 1958 Tarrant County United Fund campaign in Arlington starting October 3. The appointment was announced by United Fund campaign chairman Joe Chowning and fund president Don Gamel. Sewell, Arlington resident since 1954, a Texas A&M graduate in electrical engineering, served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. He is active in civic groups and Boy Scouts Troop 98. the Sewell family lives at 1303 Mockingbird Lane with children James S. and Patricia.

Arlington Memorial Hospital to stage disaster training workout
Arlington Memorial Hospital personnel will hold a simulated disaster drill next Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Hospital Disaster Planning Committee with Moore's Funeral Home ambulances and the Junior Hospital Auxiliary will stage a wreck with about 20 fake casualties on the GSC property to test staff efficiency and casualty handling. Police and newspapers will participate.

Randol Mill Road paving near completion with bond funded share
The final Randol Mill Road stretch will begin soon after a public hearing where the city levied assessments by ordinance. Texas Billithic Company won a $44,254.11 contract to finish paving from Oak Wood to North Collins, with property owners paying $1.50 per front foot as part of the 1954 bond issue. A protest over right of way clarification was noted, and the main delay will be the bridge construction near the National Guard Armory over Randol Mill Park.

Lions Club Picnicorama aims for 2000 in Arlington
The Greater Arlington Lions Club hosts the second annual Picnicorama at ASC Athletic Field offering a 50 cent entry with a two hour program. Miss Picnicorama contest features ten entrants with prizes including a western weekend, merchandise from local merchants, and a trophy. Entertainment by Arlington High band, Light Crust doughboys, Wills Family, and kiddie rides. Proceeds support Lions Club charities including hospital isolette purchases and eyeglasses for children.
