Mary Pritchard Dies After Long Illness in Prairieton

Kansas Murderer Lynched After Capture

George Mack who killed Richard Parker, a Great Bend saloon keeper, was captured in Kansas City and taken back toward Great Bend. A lynch mob seized him near Ellenwood, dragged him behind a horse to town, hanged him at a billiard hall and shot the body as the crowd watched. The coroner later cut the body down.

Murder at Friendship Baptist Church Steps

While services were in progress, Matthew Reid and John Nordman accosted Aaron Bryant outside the Friendship Baptist church. Reid cursed and fired a pistol, killing Bryant as he turned to reenter the church. Reid fled. Nordman is jailed as an accessory. In Alabama, Hillian was killed by a man named Ward, who was captured and likely lynched.

Ex-convict Riley Brown shoots stableman in Ohio dispute

In Columbus on May 1 Riley Brown an ex convict shot and killed John Shaffer a Portsmouth Ohio stableman after a dispute over Shaffer's relationship with Brown's wife. Brown was wounded in the leg.

In Evansvinor on May 1, patrolmen Gus Bryant and Thomas Hutchins were arrested for grand larceny tied to stealing silks laces and gloves from Miller Brothers' fire ruins on New Year's Eve. Boiler Explosion Kills Engineer in Indiana Saw Mill

In Evansville Indiana a boiler exploded at Samuel Beauchamp's saw mill on the Straight Line Railroad three miles north of Oakland City at the Patoka River crossing. Engineer John Cauthorn, a newcomer two days on duty, died instantly. Two workers, Jesse Wester and Jep Collins, were seriously injured with a crushed skull and broken leg and foot. Wester is in critical condition. The blast hurled the fire box 200 yards along the track and scattered boiler remnants.
