Hoberg, Root & Co warns against sellers of fake Hog Bitters and products using hops in their name or misrepresenting as the genuine remedy. Advises public to beware of imitators and illegitimate preparations and states prosecutions will follow for those dealing in frauds. Rochester N Y firm.
A scattered ad listing cure-alls and health products including Nervous Debility remedies, bronchial tonics, and nerve restorers with prices and addresses. It also promotes Terre Haute vendors, a laundry service in Troy, and a machine oil claim, all in a compact classified style. The notices name Allen's Pharmacy in New York, E Bindley & Co in Terre Haute, Hunter's Troy Laundry, Covens Brown's, and Dr Kline's Great Nerve Restorer with locations in Philadelphia and Chicago.
Dr McGrew announces his office at the northwest corner of Third and Main. A copy of the Weekly Gazette dated January 11 is wanted and twenty cents will be paid for the first one. Mrs Rankin and Miss Rankin of north Seventh street travel to Indianapolis to visit friends. Yesterday Will Haworth, formerly of Hoberg Reot & Co, graduated from Rush Medical College and friends hope he locates here.
Frank James appeared in Gallatin Me court yesterday on three indictments for the Winston train robbery the murder of Conductor Westfalls and the bank cashier Sheets in the Gallatin bank robbery He pleaded not guilty and the trial was set for the third Monday in June at the next Circuit Court term He was remanded to jail a large crowd watching his steady demeanor.
McSweeney and a partner conspired to obtain $21.40 from a Clinton drug store. The partner sold his time to a speculative young man who runs a Clinton Locks drug store. McSweeney was arrested after pursuit by the druggist and another man, and an amicable settlement was arranged.
The river fell three and a half inches at the water works between 11 am and 2 pm today, reducing the total since Sunday’s high point. Wiseman the Sugar Creek dairyman reached town for the first time since Friday, Postmaster Curley walked mail through, and Sam Prevo rode the Belgrade upriver only to find Chinno with landing flooded. The Belgrade found a frozen section at Dusk Creek requiring a passage cut through the ice.
The Rumford Chemical Works of Providence announces a shift after 25 years of powder packaging to glass bottles for Horsford's Baking Powder. The wide mouth bottle allows a teaspoon, is cleaner, and preserves powder strength better than tin. Air exposure causes strength loss, explaining variations seen in cans.
Brazin reports in February that coal operators plan to cut mining prices by fifteen cents per ton starting March 1 from a dollar per ton. After a Indianapolis meeting with railroad men, transportation rates were reduced, enabling a thirty cent overall reduction. Miners are expected to resist, with a strike likely to put 2,500 workers out of work.
In a letter to the Gazette W K Burnett states he never authorized use of his name in connection with the sparring match at Atlantic Garden tonight. The Gazette notes it publishes the card with pleasure.
The wounded man, held at the jail, breathes heavily this afternoon with little chance of recovery. He left a letter for his eldest son Clel requesting his wife be buried decently and expressing indifference to his own burial, written before the shooting. the remainder is unreadable.
Mr. Charles Braman will relocate his wholesale nation store to 603 Main Street and Mr. Moser Alshuler will take the vacated room.

Peirce, a lawyer and former assistant clerk, with strong influence in revenue circles.

Henry Gaunt, a colored man, was arrested last week on suspicions of a Kentucky murderer. He confessed he worked for Clarksville dry goods dealer R W Roach, who denied knowledge of the case. Police released Gaunt after descriptions conflicted. he may have fled. A note notes a marriage banns for Will J Hartman and Carrie Van Pelt on February 22 at the bride's home in Indianapolis.
Wm May is very ill at his country home and Mrs Fink Smith suffers fever. Ason visited James Coffman on the 15th. Henry Rogerteos died. Shorty Atherton is popular. W Casto plans to publish a book on politeness. Sugar Creek mill logs: Wm Larimer sawed nearly 2000 logs in six weeks. A two year old child nearly drowned while chasing a cat. saved by the mother at Breitfelder’s eastern city residence.
This morning at 9 o'clock P A Pierce was thrown from his horse near his home at 620 South Sixth Street and was so badly hurt he remained unconscious for a time.
Surveyor John M. Morton reports four lots of opium valued at $15 000 found on the steamer City of Tokio hidden in a water tank with access only by a shaft well. Officials suspect ship officers aided concealment and expect further seizures.
