Rebel General Becomes Argentina's President

Argentina's rebel forces won a peace agreement and unconditional surrender from loyalists of Juan Peron. Maj. Gen. Eduardo Lonardi named provisional president as Peron’s fate remained unclear, with reports of him aboard a Paraguayan gunboat in Buenos Aires harbor. The junta announced Lonardi would assume power Thursday.

Harrison Township annexed to Terre Haute in historic vote

Terre Haute City Council unanimously approved Special Ordinance No. 21 to annex Harrison Township adding about 12 000 residents or more than a 20 percent population increase. Mayor Ralph Tucker hailed the action as a big step forward for a bigger, better city. The measure includes a two year bond on municipal services funded from a special tax fund.

Plane Crash Injures Fifteen At Dow Air Force Base

A four-engine refueling plane from the 341st Air Refueling Squadron crashed on approach at Dow Air Force Base Maine injuring fifteen. Maj. Bert H. Lynn Jr. and eight other crew members plus three base firemen were hospitalized for burns and minor injuries.

Sheriff Defends Deputies in Stout Beating Claim

Sheriff John Trierweiler denied accusations that deputies beat Jerry Stout during removal from the motorcycle crash. He said deputies did not see Stout until hospital arrival, and that Stout allegedly swung at a nurse in the emergency room. The sheriff added Stout kicked Deputy Raymond after hospital transport.

Three Youths Die In Hamilton Car Crash West Of Richmond
