Thirteen Killed in Private Plane Crash in Ohio

A twin engine Lockheed Lodestar owned by Ashland Oil crashed on Glenn Sickle’s 40 acre farm near Ravenna while carrying executives from Cleveland and Buffalo to Ashland Kentucky for a sales meeting. Thirteen aboard died with no survivors. The plane exploded in bright orange flames, leaving debris scattered across the field and a crater five feet deep. Among the dead were Frontier Oil Co officials Clayton Maxwell and Newton Bricka.

School Bells Ring Out for Young Scholars

Vigo County School Corporation opens for the 1962 63 term with grades one to twelve reporting Wednesday and kindergarten enrollment starting. Secondary registrations at 8 a.m. and elementary at 8 30 a.m. Bus dismissals at 11 and 11 30. Kindergarten conferences run Wednesday and Thursday with late registrations Friday morning. Regular kindergarten starts Monday. Rose Poly hosts week long orientation through Friday plus a two day freshman parent orientation ending Wednesday. Freshmen students come from 13 states Hawaii and the Canal Zone. the 1962 63 class is among the largest.

Vigo County launches SOS Sabin immunization drive

The Vigo County Medical Society with local agencies plans a Sabin Oral Sundays polio immunization program. Three doses on Sept 16 Oct 21 and Nov 25 are offered for 25 cents, or free if unable to pay, to residents six months and older. Mayor Plans Sanitary Board Appointments and Civilian Staffing

Mayor Ralph Tucker disclosed at a bi monthly press conference that two commissioners will join Terre Haute’s three member Sanitary District Board once the 1963 city budget is approved. He said civilian employees will replace police clerks to bolster regular policing and staffing. He noted no current vacancies in fire service and only the chief's secretarial post and one Detective Bureau appointment in the police department. He added Mark Heinig has resigned to attend Indiana State College and the secretarial post remains temporarily vacant.
